Have you ever heard of www.carsonified.com or www.thinkvitamin.com? If not you, are in for a treat. This is a video from an event they did in 2008. I had to review this for a class but I thought it might be of use to you in your Internet Marketing endeavors. Enjoy!

Dragons Den style TechCrunch Pitch at Future of Web Apps London 2008

Web Start-ups Pitching their Companies

Judges are:

Mike Butcher from www.TechCrunch.com

Brent Haberman from www.lastminute.com and now www.mydeco.com

Jason Calacanis from www.Mohalo.com

Host: Ryan Carson from www.ThinkVitamin.com and www.Carsonified.com

Each pitch can only be 60 seconds long. Afterwards there is a brief Q&A time followed up with a 1-10 scale scoring from the judges. There is no fluff found here.

The brave soul up to offer the first pitch is Tim from www.PhoneFromHere.com. Tim’s presentation approach was rather casual with a lack of images, stats and what problems it solves in the marketplace. PhoneFromHere is an API that adds phone conversation to your website. It is explained it’s like having an 800 number for the web. The present business model is based on pay-per-use whereby each recipient of the call pays for the call. They are currently targeting large bulk sites with casual users and not sales agents. There was some concern about whether or not the user needed a headset for maximum engagement. PhoneFromHere scored an average of 4.25.

Up next is Pascal from www.Raffle.it. Pascal’s presentation had a few images but really needed to show what the product does for the consumer and not just talk about it. Raffle.it is a place where individuals, schools, charities or anyone can raffle valuable unwanted items. Users purchase vouchers in order to place a bid. Each ticket comes with a rewards vouchers from a related retailer so everyone wins something. Their current business model is ticket revenue and a charge for the voucher delivery. However, they could expand their revenue by using their resources as qualified leads for advertisers. Raffle.it was given an average score of 7.625.

The third presenter is Josh March from www.theiplatform.com. Josh’s presentation had several great images showing the product in a mind mapping style. Iplatform integrates your online community through a single API into multiple social networks. Currently they offer integration into Facebook, Bebo and MySpace. The business model charges a fee for the API and an ongoing licensing fee plus it takes a cut of any of the money spent on promoting the app. While they have a few competitors that offer a limited similar product, they are currently the only one doing this exact business. Iplatform’s average score was 5.875.

Next we are privileged to hear from Kelt and George from www.Diary.com. The presentation was well articulated but lacked any demonstration of the product. Diary.com allows private conversations, file sharing, media sharing and link sharing with your real friends. The business model is a subscription based model with additional revenue being generated from targeted ads, affiliates and virtual economy items. Diary.com was praised for a great URL but hit hard for not displaying what the website can do. Diary.com received an average score of 4.75.

The final pitch for the video was Alexis from www.erepublic.com. Alexis did a great job of staying passionate for his product while giving a thorough presentation including his use of a screen shot of their Google Analytics upwards graph. Erepublic is a totally web based strategy game. Inside of the Massive online strategy game you can interact with friends, get a job, do invasions; you are only limited by your imagination. The business model is a virtual currency model whereby users purchase erepublic gold in order to create, maintain and expand their virtual world. One primary difference between this and other online games is that you can play a complete sequence in just 15 minutes. Erepublic earned the average score of 9.33.

The scores were tallied and the winners are…

erepublic.com

raffle.it

iplatform.com

Congratulations to all the participants for their efforts and their pitches!

Once a month in the Dallas/Fort Worth area there is a Meetup that shares an interest in learning or sharing practical applications of social in your business. The DFW Social Media Marketing – Education & Networking is an awesome way for experienced or newbies to keep in the know with social media. The November Meetup was by Tony Cecala, Ph.D. on Integrating WordPress & Social Media.

Dr. Cecala did an awesome job explaining the “why” behind social media for your business and then specifically how you can integrate several different applications into your WordPress website. He was also gracious enough to place his slides on slideshare so you can benefit from his presentation.

Critical Questions for Success:

Who are you?

What are your goals?

What are you selling?

Your offer needs to be clearly stated on your website – download white paper, sign up for email, get a free report, get an ebook – you want to engage them and meet them. Make them comfortable so they will “hand over their wallet” to you.

Getting to “Yes!”

When people are comfortable with your brand and who you are then you can get to the “yes” more frequently and rapidly.

AIDA Formula – inverted triangle

Attention

Interest

Desire

Action

It is hard to get people’s attention with so many websites available today

Interest – Do you stand out in a crowd?

Desire – Do you have something tasty? Unique?

Action – Call, click, enroll, download, subscribe – What is it that you want them to do to engage with your brand…what’s the first step?

Mindshare/Branding

What is a brand?

Unique Selling Proposition

“Why I should by from you, and not someone else.”

i.e. Wal-Mart – “Always Low Prices.”

i.e. AAA – “24 hour roadside assistance”

WordPress

Build a home on the web.

The WordPress Advantage – stable, mature, good-looking, open, extensible

Own your data, dominate the search engines, easily manage multimedia, easily integrate with social media

I also found this helpful video on YouTube for you. Look past her voice and enjoy her tips.

For all the wonderful innovation that Microsoft provides, I think that printing an Outlook calendar is one of the most uninspiring activities I do on any given day…until now. Why this does not come pre-installed with Outlook I do not know. It just makes your calendar more attractive, appealing, fun, inspiring…I could go on and on. The Calendar Printing Assistant for Outlook 2007 is an awesome addition to your Microsoft Office suite. How I love thee, let me count the ways:

Additional calendar template choices…that make sense (did a woman design this…LOL)

Advanced calendar coloring options

You can choose to print by day, week, month or year

Select from any or all of your Calendars for printing in overlay

Choose to include any or all of your Task lists…or not

Pick a font set

Select a color scheme or create your very own custom color scheme

Choose the calendar style that suits you the best (basic, classic, modern, rounded, etc.)

Pick your Page Setup ( I have one calendar in letter and one in 1/2 Letter)

Create tabs of customization for each type of calendar you prefer

When you are finished your calendar looks like a professional calendar you purchased

This is what my calendar looks like when printed with the basic Microsoft Outlook print settings. Rather uninspiring.

This is what my calendar looks like when using the Calendar Printing Assistant for Outlook. Oh, so much better

At the time I printed these I had completed all my tasks otherwise there would be tasks in that section. The notes section is blank so I have a place to jot down whatever I need to for that day.

Here is my setting for this page (in case you want yours to look just like it)

Day Template – Long Day 02 Letter

Colors – Opulent

Fonts – Georgia

Calendar Style – Modern

Page Setup – Letter Portrait

Calendars and Tasks – Primary .pst calendar, Primary Tasks List and US Holidays

I can already hear some of your minds thinking “in this day and age of pda’s, smart phones and syncing why is she still printing her calendar?” I am a tactile person. I like to touch paper, highlight stuff, crumple, doodle and I jot down tons of little notes to myself all day long. Rather than having a jotter or a huge desk calendar I just print out one calendar page per day. This way I can take notes until my hearts content, everything is neat and orderly, put them in my Franklin Covey binder and refer back to them when needed. Hey, it’s my system…don’t pick on me

You can get the Calendar Printing Assistant for Outlook 2007 for free from the Microsoft website.

I could probably hire a part-time employee to check all my various affiliate marketing stats. Here was the process (that I only did monthly because I hated taking the time to do it). First, I had to create a spreadsheet for my affiliate accounts to make sure I didn’t leave any stat or company out. I used to have to go to each and every site individually to gather the information, copy the information, sometimes decipher the information and finally paste the information into the spreadsheet. It was time consuming, cumbersome and an inefficient use of my time. If I had an part-timer handle it I was spending way too much money to accomplish this task. I figured there had to be an easier way to leverage my time and money.

These are the two best affiliate tracking software companies that I have tried.

StatsJunky

This is actually my favorite of the two applications. You’ll want to make sure that you already have some affiliate income happening to justify the expense of this program. However, it is packaged very attractively, offers great flow charts, graphs, stats and the layout is just very well thought out (I wonder if they had a woman designer?…LOL).

Currently they are tracking information for the following networks (but you can request a network at any time).

I was re-reading an article today from Forbes (November 17, 2008) entitled “Looking Ahead: Outsourcing Shifts in 2009″. The article contains outsourcing forecasts for U.S. businesses. Some of the highlights are: cost challenges, focus on global sourcing, deal size, outsourcing hits the mid-market and outsourcing support services. Peter Bendor-Samuel did quite a fabulous job in his forecasting efforts. However, I think they should have also included in the article on what a detrimental effect this will have on the working class in America.

What happened to taking care of our own citizens?

What happened to supporting one another in our endeavors?

What happened to buying American?

I have heard it said before that all the money in the world comes from a few people and everything you do just brings it right back to them…full circle. All in the name of more money for the fat wallets of the elite upper class thousands of jobs, careers and opportunities will be ripped from the families’ of America. People will not be able to feed their family because you sent what could have been their job to Malaysia. No wonder we have an economy problem…is the solution to start sending our money and jobs to another country? NO! Is the next step to start outsourcing Americans to these foreign countries?

People come from other countries to America because of the opportunities that this great nation has available for them. Will they now start flocking to India because they can get work there? Will they head to China for the advances that technology can produce in that country? Will doctors start heading to Taiwan so they can perform surgeries in posh hospitals that don’t have insurance headaches? What happens when these opportunities are removed from our land, our culture and our pocketbooks?

I hear people whine all the time about their hard earned money paying for medicare, food stamps and other impoverished things. If companies’ start moving these lower to mid income positions to other countries how many more people will now not have jobs and will you have to support with your tax money? When you start factoring in how much additional money you will spend in taxes to support another family in their struggles are you really saving money at your business?

How hard can it be to set up a call center here in the U.S., hire people to speak with such a heavy accent you can’t understand them (try New York or Louisiana) and give them a script that won’t help the end user anyway. WAIT! Here’s a novel idea…a call center right here in the U.S. that actually helps people with the problem they called about. What about a clothing factory that actually has adults working to provide for their family. Why not strive to do something for America by training people not to just do a “job” but to take great pride in their work, be mentored in becoming great leaders and regain that sense of self respect that some have long since lost.

As long as we are talking pie in the sky…let’s put God back into it too. A workforce that unites itself in prayer, love, humility, peace, joy, kindness and goodness is a powerful force that would be breathtaking. I know that we could all use a little joy in our lives…am I right!

I say, “Don’t outsource in 2009″ but rather “Provide in 2009.” Provide a “think outside the box” arena for your company to expand its hiring thought processes. Provide opportunities. Provide good training. Provide jobs and careers on U.S. soil. Provide that proud to be an American spirit. Provide another way for that family to put a meal on their table. Provide milk for that single mom’s baby. Provide. Provide. Provide.

Do Your Potential Customers Forget About You?

Your web business probably gets product inquiries from potential customers around the globe. Inquiries come via e-mail and your web site, and you try to send information to each hot prospect as quickly as you can. You know that you can drastically increase the likelihood of making a sale by satisfying each person’s need for information quickly!

But, after you’ve delivered that first bit of information to your prospect, do you send him any further information?

If you are like most Internet marketers, you don’t.

When you don’t follow that initial message with additional information later on, you let a valuable prospect slip from your grasp! This is a potential customer who may have been very interested in your products, but who lost your contact information, or was too busy to make a purchase when your first message reached him.

Often, a prospect will purposely put off making a purchase, to see if you find him important enough to follow up with later. When he doesn’t receive a follow up message from you, he will take his business elsewhere.

Are you losing profits due to inconsistent and ineffective follow up?

Following up with leads is more than just a process – it’s an art. In order to be effective, you need to design a follow up system, and stick to it, EVERY DAY! If you don’t follow up with your prospects consistently, INDIVIDUALLY, and in a timely fashion, then you might as well forget the whole follow up process.

Consistent follow up gets results!

When I first started marketing and following up with prospects, I used a follow up method that I now call the “List Technique.” I had a large database containing the names and e-mail addresses of people who had specifically requested information about my products and services. These prospects had already received my first letter by the time they requested more information, so I used the company’s latest news as a follow up piece.

I would write follow up newsletters every now and then, and send them, in one mass mailing, to everyone who had previously requested information from me. While this probably did help me win a few additional orders, it wasn’t a very good follow up method. Why isn’t the “List Technique” very effective?

The List Technique isn’t consistent. Proponents of the List Technique tend to only send out follow up messages when their companies have “big news”.

List Technique messages don’t give the potential customer any additional information about the product or service in question. He can’t make a more informed buying decision after receiving a newsletter! If someone is wondering whether your company sells the best knick-knacks, what does he care that you’ve just moved your headquarters?

List Technique messages convey a “big list” mentality to your potential customers. When I used to write follow up messages using the List Technique, I was writing news bulletins to everyone I knew! I should have been sending a personal message to each individual who wanted to know more about my products.

What follow up method really works?

Following up with each lead individually, multiple times, but at set intervals, and with pre-written messages, will dramatically increase sales! Others who use this same technique confirm that they have all at least doubled the sales of various products! In order to set this system up, though, you need to do some planning.

First, you’ll need to develop your follow up messages. If you’ve been marketing on the Internet for any length of time, then you should already have a first informative letter. Your second letter marks the beginning of the follow up process, and should go into more detail than the first letter. Fill this letter with details that you didn’t have the space to add to the first letter. Stress the BENEFITS of your products or services!

Your next 2-3 follow up messages should be rather short. Include lists of the benefits and potential uses of your products and services. Write each letter so that your prospects can skim the contents, and still see the full force of your message.

The next couple of follow up messages should create a sense of urgency in your prospect’s mind. Make a special offer, giving him a reason to order NOW instead of waiting any longer. After reading these follow up messages, your prospect should want to order immediately!

Phrase each of your final 1 or 2 follow up messages in the form of a question. Ask your prospect why he hasn’t yet placed an order? Try to get him to actually respond. Ask if the price is to high, the product isn’t the right color or doesn’t have the right features, or if he is looking for something else entirely. (By this time, it’s unlikely that this person will order from you. However, his feedback can help you modify your follow up letters or products, so that other prospects will order from you.)

The timing of your follow up letters is just as important as their content. You don’t want one prospect to receive a follow up the day after he gets your initial informative letter, while another prospect waits weeks for a follow up!

Always send an initial, informative letter as soon as it is requested, and send the first follow up 24 hours afterwards. You want your hot prospects to have information quickly, so that they can make informed buying decisions!

Send the next 2-3 follow up messages between 1 and 3 days apart. Your prospect is still hot, and is probably still shopping around! Tell him about the benefits of your products and services, as opposed to your competitors’. You will make the sale!

Send the final follow up messages later on. You certainly don’t want to annoy your prospect! Make sure that these last letters are at least 4 days apart.

Following up effectively seems complicated, but it doesn’t have to be! So many potential customers are lost because of poor follow up – don’t you want to be one of the few to get it right? Click here to simplify all your follow-ups.

Here’s how to get maximum value from it:

CREATE A “STORY BOOK.” Collect the stories you receive and put them together in one file or report. When clients ask for information about your company and products, provide them with a copy of your story file so they can see what others have said about you.

POST THEM ONLINE. Scatter stories across your Web site. Don’t restrict them to a single area; place them high on every page. Look for stories that speak of specific products and use them on Web pages that feature those products.

RECORD THEM ON AUDIO. Ask clients to read their stories out loud to create an audiotape of client comments. Add the comments to your voice-response system for callers to hear while they’re on hold, or include them in your presentations.

FORM A PARTNERSHIP. Check your industry for an organization whose products complement yours. Make an agreement: You’ll provide a story, which the other company can use to market its products to your clients, if the other person will endorse your product and allow you to court their clients. You both win.
