Can You See What I See?

Today while reading my Bible and enjoying breakfast I made a startling discovery. Let me back up a little bit here. Yesterday I had been working in my back porch garden for a couple of hours. I trimmed. I re-potted. I watered. Then I cleaned up the entire space so it would look all neat and tidy for my breakfast this morning.

As I was meandering through the various plants checking to see how everyone was doing I came across this one plant. Something just didn’t seem quite right.

The dirt was a little disheveled. The plant was kind of…well, messy. There was a little dirt on the shelving. I thought to myself: Could I have been so messy yesterday. So I decided to take a closer look. Can you see what I see?

You can just barely see it in the upper left of the pot. What? Can’t make it out yet? I just couldn’t resist(maybe I should have since I had found 5 snake skins and 2 baby rat snakes on the porch yesterday). Okay, I’m sure you’ll be able to see it in this picture(even though he is wearing a brilliant disguise).

I wondered where my little toad has been. He has been hiding in disguise. I guess this potted plant has become his toad house. I usually have several toads on my back porch because there is moist soil, a decorative water fountain, many potted plants and it is a safe place from the dogs just outside the door. However, he does enjoy a good stroll in the evening outside the door under the porch lights catching bugs in the dark of night.

I enjoy the toads back here because their sound is just lovely. They also keep the bug population on the porch to a minimum(even though it is screened in you still get a couple of bugs making their way under the door or through the screening). They also just seem to add to the eco system that thrives back here.

In this little eco system I have bugs, geckos, toads, frogs, mud daubers-sometimes, spiders, snakes-I try and not have these back here , hummingbirds and me! It is a wonderful place for me to feel natural. I just love my back porch.

The History of Aprons

I got this in an email today and thought the history of aprons was a humorous story…enjoy!

The History of Aprons

I don’t think our kids know what an apron is.

The principal use of Grandma’s apron was to protect the dress underneath, because she only had a few, it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and they used less material, but along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.

It was wonderful for drying children’s tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the chicken n coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.

When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids.

And when the weather was cold, grandma wrapped it around her arms.

Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove.

Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.

From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables.. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.

In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.

When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.

When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.

It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that ‘old-time apron’ that served so many purposes.

Send this to those who would know, and love, the story about Grandma’s aprons. Or it can be a good history lesson for those that have no idea how the apron played a part in our lives.

REMEMBER:

Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool. Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw.

They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron.
I don’t think I ever caught anything from an apron……

What a great day!

I had a great day relaxing today! I went to church, watched TV with the kids, fell asleep watching TV with the kids…I woke myself up snoring! Hilarious, I know, chased pygmy goats…

Today the funniest thing happened. The goats were almost to the street and needed to be rounded up back into the pasture. I was lazy. I went to let Dakota, my border collie, out the office door but there were three cats and she would not budge. She is a chicken. I went to the front door and she finally headed outside. She ran out to those goats like she knew what she was doing. She herded them into the pasture and would not stop until the very last one was put up. I was amazed. She had so much fun she wouldn’t come when I called her…I think we need to work on “come.” I have high hopes for never having to chase a goat again. I think we will begin some obedience training starting tomorrow. She was so proud of herself that when we got back to the house she promptly jumped into the koi pond! A major no,no. I laughed so hard!

Tomorrow is a holiday…I hope I do something fun! I think I will redesign my website at www.imagine-believe-achieve.com. We’ll see.
