Calendar Printing Assistant for Outlook

I also found this helpful video on YouTube for you. Look past her voice and enjoy her tips.

For all the wonderful innovation that Microsoft provides, I think that printing an Outlook calendar is one of the most uninspiring activities I do on any given day…until now. Why this does not come pre-installed with Outlook I do not know. It just makes your calendar more attractive, appealing, fun, inspiring…I could go on and on. The Calendar Printing Assistant for Outlook 2007 is an awesome addition to your Microsoft Office suite. How I love thee, let me count the ways:

Additional calendar template choices…that make sense (did a woman design this…LOL)
Advanced calendar coloring options
You can choose to print by day, week, month or year
Select from any or all of your Calendars for printing in overlay
Choose to include any or all of your Task lists…or not
Pick a font set
Select a color scheme or create your very own custom color scheme
Choose the calendar style that suits you the best (basic, classic, modern, rounded, etc.)
Pick your Page Setup ( I have one calendar in letter and one in 1/2 Letter)
Create tabs of customization for each type of calendar you prefer
When you are finished your calendar looks like a professional calendar you purchased

This is what my calendar looks like when printed with the basic Microsoft Outlook print settings. Rather uninspiring.

At the time I printed these I had completed all my tasks otherwise there would be tasks in that section. The notes section is blank so I have a place to jot down whatever I need to for that day.

Here is my setting for this page (in case you want yours to look just like it)

Day Template – Long Day 02 Letter
Colors – Opulent
Fonts – Georgia
Calendar Style – Modern
Page Setup – Letter Portrait
Calendars and Tasks – Primary .pst calendar, Primary Tasks List and US Holidays

I can already hear some of your minds thinking “in this day and age of pda’s, smart phones and syncing why is she still printing her calendar?” I am a tactile person. I like to touch paper, highlight stuff, crumple, doodle and I jot down tons of little notes to myself all day long. Rather than having a jotter or a huge desk calendar I just print out one calendar page per day. This way I can take notes until my hearts content, everything is neat and orderly, put them in my Franklin Covey binder and refer back to them when needed. Hey, it’s my system…don’t pick on me

In order for a TV show to have a long run it must contain a few elements:

Conflict
Humor
Touch the audience on an emotional level
Be marketable for advertisers to want it to elevate their brand
A plethora of content for longevity
Either accomplished stars or complete unknowns that continue to amaze us week after week

I think that America’s Got Talent hits us on all these levels. Today I was touched by this amazing family on Hulu. Here is your inspiration for today. If they can overcome these insurmountable odds then you are (I am) without excuse. Take a peak into the journey of this family and celebrate their accomplishment.

P.S. I forgot to tell you to get a hankie ready. Even this old hard-nose cried!

FREE Homeschool State Fair of Texas Tickets

Just sharing some love with all my hard working Texas homeschool parents. Now is the time to order your FREE homeschool State Fair of Texas tickets.

2009 Home School Ticket Request Guidelines

All requests must be made in writing. No requests made by phone or e-mail will be accepted.

The program is for Kindergarten thru 12th grade beginning with 5 year olds – no Pre-K. They do not have a ticket program for children younger than 5.

The program is for families living within a 100 mile radius of the State Fair of Texas Fairgrounds.

Each family must submit individually to avoid duplicate requests. We do not accept requests from home school groups or associations.

Please submit your request on school letterhead, if you have it (This is a great time for you to create a logo for your homeschool and create your own letterhead. This came in handy several times over our homeschooling career and especially at graduation. Make is a family project and vote on the best one.). If not, any paper/stationery is fine, just make sure to include your name and address in your letter.

Include the ages and grade levels of each student. Name of student is not necessary. Requests without this information will be returned unfilled.

We can send one teacher ticket per family. If you would like a teacher ticket, please include your request in your letter.

Include a daytime phone number where we can reach you in case you have left out any information.

Include a business size stamped envelope. Please DO NOT address the envelope in any way as we will print address labels. The envelope must be business size because of the length of the tickets.

All requests must be POSTMARKED AND COMPLETE by the deadline date of Friday, May 29, 2009. Incomplete requests and requests arriving after this date will be returned unfilled.

Why You Should Not Take Your Hubby to the Doctor

This story is why you shouldn’t take your hubby to the doctor with you. By the time I finish writing this article he will have already called all his friends and shared this story. Gotta love him! And they say girls are the gossips! LOL

I have been in bed sick for four days. I was assuming it was the flu and yesterday my mom (who is always right) said that she believed it was strep. Since my mom’s diagnosis are always right, I woke up this morning and immediately called the doctor for an appointment for today. As a result of having balance issues I decided to let my hubby accompany me to the doctor (mistake number one!).

We checked in to the doctors office without any fanfare. Before I even had a seat in the waiting room they had already called my name. My husband just followed me right into the patient room. I sit on the bed and he sits down in a chair between counter and the scale.

While the nurse is quizzing me on my ailments my husband is continuing to use his stand up comic routine on her. She would not crack. He took this as a personal challenge to get this nurse to bow to his comedic prowess. He got her so distracted she forgot to take my blood pressure and pulse. After she left the room he expressed his disappointment in her not even letting a fraction of a smile show.

She comes back in to take my blood pressure and pulse. He continues on with his normal humorous tactics. This time she caved a little with a giggle. When she went out in the hall you could hear her telling her co-workers what he had said. My hubby wasn’t quite satisfied with her giggle.

This time she forgot to take my weight…she enters the room again to take my weight (I hate this part of any exam). I get up on the scale thinking about how the weight will not be accurate because I am fully clothed and so begins the process. She slides that bottom part over to 150…which is normal. Then she slides that bottom part over to 200…I was like no way! I turn to the nurse and said with a rather insulted tone, “Hey, get that thing off of 200! I’m not weighing anything close to 200!” All of the sudden my husband busts out in laughter. God love him. The nurse sees it first. Then I see it. He had his foot on the edge of the scale pressing down as hard as he could…the little stinker. He had me topped out at 233!

Once again the nurse goes into the hallway in hysterics over my husbands antics and tells all her co-workers about it. When the doctor comes in she has already heard the story too and is chuckling about it. By the time we hit the checkout they had heard the story as well.

By the time we arrived back at the house he had already called four of his friends and relayed this story. When I called my mother to tell her about her diagnosis being correct, she had already heard the story. This is why you should not take your hubby to the doctor!

It does take a special kind of person to find humor in any situation…LOL He has kept me in stitches for over 20 years now!

Movie Review – The Day the Earth Stood Still

I was having a pity party for myself tonight and decided to take myself to the drive-in. I know, right. Yes, there are drive-in theaters spread across the U.S. You get to see two movies for $6.00, enjoy some fresh air (tonight is was COLD fresh air), eat some junk food and feel nostalgic all while trying to make sure you don’t run down your battery. No worries as they have a charger handy (please, don’t ask how I know this). Back to my review…so I went and saw The Day the Earth Stood Still and Quantum of Solace (which I had already seen).

This movie was actually a remake by the same name released in 1951. Usually I do not like remakes, however, this remake is worth seeing. I can’t believe I am saying this, but I think you might even enjoy the remake more then the original. Don’t start whipping me with wet noodles until you have seen it…give it a fair shot.

The movie is set in New York City when suddenly a large object is hurtling through space at unfathomable speeds. The top earth’s scientists are assembled to find a solution to what appears to be the earth’s immediately eminent demise. Great balls of light plummet to the earth’s surface and send the earth into a state of panic.

Enters alien, Klaatu (Keanu Reeves). Unsure what the alien’s motives are the earthlings attempt to test and bridle the creature while the military fails miserable to control the alien’s guardian. Klaatu finally reveals that he has been sent to earth to see if… Come on…I can’t tell you the end (I hate it when people tell the end of the movie).

To me this movie seemed a little like the story of Noah’s Ark. Mankind is sinful so let’s destroy it. The glowing pods sent to earth are even taking some of the earth’s creatures for safe keeping (I wonder if they were going 2 by 2?). There was also some definite “think green” subliminal messages being generated during this film. I think the bigger picture was the fact that not only was man being destructive to the earth but also caustic to their own kind.

I think the overall message of the movie should be taken to heart. We are the people who together must make change happen. I am a person who makes change happen.
