What do I get out of TheMoxieMomBlog?

I believe that God has blessed me with a fantastic family, many wonderful talents and gifts. I believe that these things are meant to be shared. Have you ever sang the song, “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine…” I gain plenty from life and so I blog:

Money - Yes, I do make a little money from this blog – at present I make a few cents a day from Adsense and have the occasional affiliate sale through one of our programs. I also have occasional advertising spots to related companies/bloggers. All these things are more about paying for the costs of running this site than making me rich. They also illustrate some different ways that you can also make money online.

Profile – Have you ever done a vanity search on Google? You might ask, “What is a vanity search?” That is where you type your own name in and see what comes up about you. This blog has undoubtedly increased my name in the Search Engine Rankings. SEO just amazes me.

Satisfaction – I enjoy this blog more than any of my others. I enjoy writing the content, meeting new people, keeping up with friends and helping readers. This is the real motivation for my blogging. People ask me all the time why do I give all this knowledge away for free – to be honest I was never very good at keeping secrets or keeping quiet…I just like people.

PR for My Other Blogs – Something that I have discovered after starting this blog is that I have also increased the traffic on my other projects. To create a platform where I can highlight what I’m doing elsewhere is just a beautiful thing. I do try to keep the amounts of cross promotion at a minimum, but sometimes I just can’t help myself.

What does this Blog cost me?

If I am going to let you in on so many secrets (well, I guess they aren’t secrets anymore!) I feel I should also reveal what this costs me.

Time – I spend more time writing posts for this blog than any of my others. In this blog I strive to cover a vast array of subjects which all require research, time and energy. Blogging is hard work most days – I put in longer hours than I’ve ever put in at any other job outside my home.

Money - You guys are active and activity takes bandwidth and bandwidth takes money. By the time you count hosting, apps, software, stats, email clients, ads, PPC and bandwidth you have racked up a pretty hefty sum. But I love seeing you “get” things. I also hope this makes it easier for you to find the answer to things and figure them out faster then it took me. Isn’t the internet wonderful?!?

Personal Attack – I think this one is fairly explanatory. The internet can be a pretty impersonal forum and sometimes people feel that they have the need to write things that they would probably not say to the face of any human being. I try to respond graciously to such emails, comments and instant messaging interactions and let them roll of my back – but sometimes it all gets a bit too much and takes a toll on me (and we all know what that means…”When momma ‘aint happy, ‘aint nobody happy”).

And so I Blog on

So blogging here as it’s benefits and costs. Some days I am so psyched by it that I am just beside myself – and other days I am tempted to close up shop because it seems to take away from my family more then it is giving. In the long run the good far exceeds the bad and so I keep blogging.
