How to: 28 Days to an Awesome Blog
Day 2 – Purchasing Your Domain and Domain Forwarding
- In Day 1 we covered your keyword research
- Today we’re going to purchase your domain and cover setting a domain forward
- Please use the url www.cheapdomains.themoxiemomblog.com
- Let’s start by picking your domain
- If you have an established business or brand you might want to use that for the domain
- I would challenge you to add your keywords in your domain
- Go ahead and purchase your brand name too and forward it to your keyword rich domain
- As a webmaster you will want to protect yourself and all your hard work by purchasing .com, .net and .org (usually the .biz and .info are on sale)
- With GoDaddy you can get the cheapest domains by purchasing the Discount Domain Club
- If you don’t have a GoDaddy account go ahead and create one…it’s free
- You might need to do a confirmation email…not sure
- Let the fun begin…enter your first url choice in any of the domain search boxes
- Under your domain results you will notice the additional choices that GoDaddy finds for you
- If you can afford it purchase the .com, .net and .org (usually the .biz and .info are on sale)
- Once you have selected your domains click on “Proceed to Checkout”
- Don’t worry about any of these other offers…just keep checking “No thanks, Continue to Checkout”
- Enter coupon code promo10 to save 10% off your entire order or promo530 to save $5 off any order of $30 or more. If you get real industrious use cjcdeal for 15% off order of $75 or more. Expires: February 28, 2009
- It might take a few minutes for your domains to progogate…here is how to do a domain forward
- Hover over “Domains” and click on “My Domains”
- Find the domains you just purchased that you want forwarded to your main domain and check the boxes beside them
- Click on the “Forward” at the top menu
- Click “Enable forwarding”
- Enter the full url where you would like your domain forwarded and check “Moved Permanently”
- In this case you are not going to need a masked domain so don’t worry about the “Masked” tab
- Click “OK”
- Your domains will take about 15 minutes for the forward to be activated
