Buy Me a Beer Coffee – PayPal Tip Widget
For those of you readers who are WordPress bloggers this Buy Me a Beer (Coffee) PayPal Donation Widget makes it super simple for readers of your blog to send you a tip (donation) via PayPal. No coding needed! Whew!
The plugin was originally developed by www.blogclout.com as “Buy Me A Beer” but it also has the coffee/cafe version built right into it. It’s your choice. At this time you can see the widget in action in this blogs sidebar and on the bottom of this article. Go ahead…give it a test run.
Once installed you can add the button to your sidebar and/or the bottom of all posts. When your readers click on the image or text they are taken to the secure PayPal page. It is here that they can give you tips. They can pay either with a PayPal account or without a PayPal account.
Psychologically people will think negatively if you just install a “Donate” button on your blog. Using a little humor and putting things into perspective will increase your donations by 200% (acording to the plugin creator).
Installation is super simple
- Download the plugin to your computer.
- In your WordPress admin go to Plugins and click on ADD NEW
- Go to “Install a plug in .zip format” and click on BROWSE
- Find your dowloaded plugin on your pc and click on OPEN
- Click on INSTALL NOW
- ACTIVATE
Widget Set up
- In your WordPress admin go to Appearance and click on WIDGETS
- Single sidebar: fin the “Buy Me a Beer” widget and click on ADD – Multiple Sidebars: Locate the sidebar where you want this widget to display and click on ADD
- Click on EDIT
- Enter your PayPal email address
- Type of Currency you prefer
- Enter a price if you want a price to display (don’t enter too low or you will rip yourself off and don’t enter it too high or they won’t complete the transaction…depends on your blogs demographic)
- What is the URL for the thank you page, if you have one (I created a new page and added a quippy thank you message, contact info, social network links, recent blog posts list…whatever you choose)
- Sidebar Options: What would you like the title for you sidebar widget to be?
- Enter some text that will be displayed beside the image of your choosing
- Do you want the beer or the cafe?
- The alternate text is what will appear when their mouse hovers over the image
- Adding it to all the posts: check if you would like the widget to appear under all blog posts above the comments
- I don’t really know what the name does so I just name it the same thing as my sidebar

- Enter some text that will be displayed beside the image of your choosing
- and click on DONE
- then click on SAVE CHANGES
Voila! You are ready to be tipped!
The developer has also made it real easy to manually add this widget anywhere on your blog you would like. For the sidebar code which displays the large image use:

For the posts and page content which displays the smaller icon image use:
