Country Living

You just never know what I’ll be up to around here. I could be quilting one day and building a barn the next. I just love living on our 10 acres with our heapin’ mess of critters.

Down Home Cooking

Cooking is really the first social networking activity humans ever learned. I love simple, good tasting, home cooked food (if it’s healthy that’s a perk!). Pull up a stool to the counter and sip some coffee while we whip up some supper together.

Family Life

Family is what life is all about. No one is going to leave this earth and wish they had spent more time at work. Some simple things to enhance your family life. “Try it, you’ll like it.”

The Moxie Mom

One of the joys of my life is getting to be a stay-at-home mom. I am so blessed to have a husband who supports me in this endeavor of raising our children. We have fun with homeschooling, 4-H, church, our farm/ranch/zoo and love living in Texas.

WordPress

My favorite blogging platform is WordPress.org. There are just so many possibilities. Want some “how-to” in layman’s terms? See some of my favorite tips, tweaks, plugins and themes that WordPress has to offer while avoiding some pitfalls.

DFW Social Media Marketing

Once a month in the Dallas/Fort Worth area there is a Meetup that shares an interest in learning or sharing practical applications of social in your business. The DFW Social Media Marketing – Education & Networking is an awesome way for experienced or newbies to keep in the know with social media. The November Meetup was by Tony Cecala, Ph.D. on Integrating WordPress & Social Media.

Dr. Cecala did an awesome job explaining the “why” behind social media for your business and then specifically how you can integrate several different applications into your WordPress website. He was also gracious enough to place his slides on slideshare so you can benefit from his presentation.

Here are my notes from the Meetup:

Critical Questions for Success:

  • Who are you?
  • What are your goals?
  • What are you selling?

Your offer needs to be clearly stated on your website – download white paper, sign up for email, get a free report, get an ebook – you want to engage them and meet them. Make them comfortable so they will “hand over their wallet” to you.

Getting to “Yes!”

When people are comfortable with your brand and who you are then you can get to the “yes” more frequently and rapidly.

AIDA Formula – inverted triangle

Attention

Interest

Desire

Action

It is hard to get people’s attention with so many websites available today

Interest – Do you stand out in a crowd?

Desire – Do you have something tasty? Unique?

Action – Call, click, enroll, download, subscribe – What is it that you want them to do to engage with your brand…what’s the first step?

Mindshare/Branding

What is a brand?

Unique Selling Proposition

“Why I should by from you, and not someone else.”

i.e. Wal-Mart – “Always Low Prices.”

i.e. AAA – “24 hour roadside assistance”

WordPress

Build a home on the web.

The WordPress Advantage – stable, mature, good-looking, open, extensible

Own your data, dominate the search engines, easily manage multimedia, easily integrate with social media

Mashable: a WordPress Site

Now Trending Plugin?

Linking to your profile accounts

Social Bookmarking – used to be called Tell-A-Friend

DandyID – great WordPress plugin – notice it in the lower right corner of this website

PrefPass – multi-social media plugin

Socialble – notice near the bottom of each article on this website

Tweetmeme – adds a Twitter count and an easy Tweet button

BigTweet – very similiar to Tweetmeme

tip: Don’t forget to put your email (contact form) and phone number on your site

LinkedIn – can add a plugin for a WordPress website and SlideShare Presentations

Twitter for WordPress – plugin – nice sidebar single post widget but can be customized

TwitterLink Comments – plugin so that your commenters can add their Twitter account to their comment

Openinviter.com – invite friends to your website using sidebar widget

Keep the message the same across all your social media sites – keep one congruent thought

So as you can see this is one powerful Social Media Group. You can hooked up by visiting their Meetup group by clicking here. Don’t forget to friend me :-) I hope to see you at the January meeting!
