This Moxie Mom is Ready for WordCamp Dallas
I built my first website in early 1992 by the sweat of my brow and a lot of trial and error. At that point in time most businesses did not have websites and only geek freaks had personal websites. I pressed on through the deluge of bizarre facial expressions my friends and family gave me when my Christmas card contained a URL for a personal Christmas website. Complete with music (I know it’s quite a faux pas now but it was the thing-to-do then), pictures and our annual family bragging articles. I was quite proud of myself. No, I will not show you a copy as it would be embarrassing now. Kind of like those photos of you when you thought you were so cool in your MC Hammer pants doing the Thriller dance.
During October of 1999 I built my first “for hire” business website. I was still really making it up as I went along. It was a fantastic site that changed with each season (at the clients request). I didn’t know how to write any html so I built the entire website from scratch using Microsoft Publisher, javascipts I hacked and ftp uploaded it into a Yahoo web account. Ah, those were the days.
Fast forward to today. I have been using WordPress since 2007 and absolutely love every aspect that it avails to me. It is one of the most user friendly platforms I have ever encountered. Even if someone knows nothing about PHP or AJAX or editing any type of code, they can produce a beautiful CMS website in a matter of minutes (okay, maybe a couple of hours). Not to mention the thousands of free WordPress theme templates available on the internet. Of course you can also have a theme custom done for you if your budget permits (just don’t use your stimulus package money to do it…LOL). Photo/Art online studio, eCommerce, client relations, product launches, brand recognition, podcasting and of course blogging are just a few of the things you can do with WordPress.
Whether you are a seasoned WordPress user or you are a newbie I think you will greatly benefit from the WordCamp Dallas • 2009 event. You will get to rub shoulders with other like minded individuals whose minds are all focused on better WordPress-ing. 300 or so bloggers just hanging out to make themselves better. This is the second largest WordPress Meetup group in the world! People come from other countries to attend this single annual event.
For about the price of a pair of jeans at Wal-Mart, 6 Venti Sugar-free Soy Caramel Macchiato’s from Starbucks or a shoelace at Nordstrom’s you get two days of awesome instruction, a t-shirt, lunch on both days plus the experience of seeing…me! That’s all code for $30.00 and I’ll sit by ya’.
When?
9:30AM – 5:00PM
9:30AM – 4:00PM
Where?
Leave me a comment so I know to be looking for you. I can’t wait to meet you in person.

If I can do it! You can do it too! Celebrating Texas country living, down home cooking, family life, figuring stuff out and being a stay-at-home moxie mom computer geek.

Online since 1992? You certainly are one of the web pioneers
I put my first site up in 1997 and finally made the move to CMS based publishing when I migrated to WP in 2007.
It was a great learning experience as I also created my own theme (or “layout” as the ex web designer in me still prefers to call it) based on the stylesheet I’d been using before switching to WP.
Anyway maybe a slightly off-topic comment but good to meet another web veteran

John, it’s great to meet you. I guess I hadn’t thought of myself as a “web pioneer” before. It just looked like so much fun and it fascinated me. But, you made it to WordPress before me. Good for you.
I haven’t ventured into creating my own them…yet. I have tweaked many but have not created one from scratch. I tried many free and premium themes but currently use the Arthemia Premium theme. It has so many possibilities that it has served nearly all my theme needs to date. Just for fun I would like to create one to post on the WP.org site.
Once again, pleasure to meet you.
Blessings,
Wendy
